Sustainability Week: How is MECATHERM raising employee awareness about sustainability culture?
As part of the European Sustainable Development Week, MECATHERM recently held the first edition of its "Sustainability Week" at its two sites in France, in Barembach (67) and Montilliers (49). This event aimed to raise awareness among all our employees about sustainability, through five themed days focused on: waste management, workplace well-being, climate issues, workplace safety, and sustainable mobility. This highligh the key pillars of our sustainability approach.
A Rich and Varied Program
Throughout these themed days, employees were able to take part in workshops, information booths, quizzes, and talks centered around five key topics:
• Waste management
A dedicated booth on waste reduction and sorting thaught how to minimize waste at home and in the workplace. This was achieved through demonstrations on how to make everyday products, simple and sustainable recipes, and an interactive training workshop. During this workshop, employees were invited to identify common sorting mistakes and adopt better habits to improve their daily practices. We also helped clarify certain sorting rules that are sometimes misunderstood or specific to our environment, whether at home or at work.
• Workplace well-being
A relaxation and sophrology workshop led by professionals helped employees discover simple techniques to better manage stress and promote everyday well-being, through breathing and visualization exercises.
• Climate issues
Two key events, led by an external expert, marked the day.
On the agenda was a conference about better understanding climate change, its impacts, and the individual actions we can take. This was followed by a workshop focused on concrete strategies to reduce one's carbon footprint in every day life. Practical tools and personalized discussions helped participants engage in meaningful and applicable solutions.
• Safety
A hands-on workshop gave employees the opportunity to learn life-saving techniques in the event of a cardiac arrest. Supervised by professionals, participants were trained to recognize warning signs during a crisis, perform the appropriate emergency actions, and effectively alert emergency services. The training also included how to use a defibrillator and practice CPR on a mannequin. This workshop served as a reminder that in an emergency, every action counts. Even the smallest gesture can save a life.
• Sustainable mobility
A bike check-up and repair workshop, led by professionals, gave employees an opportunity to inspect their bicycles (brakes, tires, chain, lights, etc.) and learn how to perform regular maintenance themselves. The workshop also covered cycling safety, best practices to adopt, and the importance of proper maintenance for safer and more sustainable mobility.
Employees were also encouraged to consider carpooling, with an awareness session highlighting its benefits and practical tips for getting started.
• Themed quizzes
Each day, our employees had the chance to test their knowledge by taking quizzes related to the day's theme. Following the quizzes, memo sheets with best practices for each topic were sent out to help employees adopt the right habits in their daily routines.
“This first edition of Sustainability Week was a great success. It created meaningful and practical opportunities for discussion around essential topics like climate, safety, and workplace well-being. By involving every one of our employees, we bring our sustainability culture to life each day at MECATHERM.”— Amandine CARDONNET, Sustainability Manager at MECATHERM
This annual event reflects our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and supportive work environment, while contributing to a more sustainable future for our employees and for the planet.
