MECATHERM supports its value chain and signs the manifesto to reduce wheat-related carbon emissions
On June 5, 2025, in Utrecht (Netherlands), more than 30 companies from the industrial bakery sector came together to sign the ‘Sustainable Wheat Initiative Europe’ Manifesto. As a ‘supportive stakeholder’ signatory, MECATHERM is showing its willingness to support this initiative to reduce emissions linked to the production of wheat and wheat flour. By taking part in this event alongside millers, cooperatives, packaging suppliers, ingredient suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and other players in the value chain, MECATHERM is demonstrating its commitment to the development of a more responsible industry.
A manifesto to reduce wheat-related carbon emissions
For the companies directly concerned, the aim of this signature is to facilitate and accelerate the transition to wheat flour with a low carbon footprint. By 2030, the objective is to cut carbon emissions associated with the production of wheat and wheat flour by 30% from 2022 levels. The initiative was launched by the heads of several leading industrial bakery companies in Europe, under the umbrella of the AIBI (International Association of Plant Bakers).
“The journey towards a low-carbon footprint is a unified effort that requires collaboration across the entire bakery value chain. The introduction of this manifesto represented a pivotal moment in our collective sustainability efforts," stated Raymond Nogael, President of MECATHERM
This commitment aligns with MECATHERM's sustainability strategy, which focuses on the environment and supporting customers as they develop more sustainable bakeries. This action helps MECATHERM raise awareness throughout its value chain and position itself as a benchmark player in helping its customers achieve their goals.
