MECATHERM takes action for the climate
Climate issues are not new, they represent a priority challenge that requires concrete actions for companies. At MECATHERM, climate issues are systematically taken into account from the design stage of new equipment or during the continuous improvement of existing installations. This approach reflects a strong commitment to designing solutions that enable our customers to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on product quality and industrial performance.
In addition, the company has been working for several years to reduce its CO₂e emissions across all three scopes. To complement this approach, in January 2025 MECATHERM initiated an SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) certification process in order to set short, medium, and long-term reduction targets.
Our concrete actions for the climate
For several years, MECATHERM has been committed to reducing the CO2e emissions generated by its equipment through several major initiatives:
1. Energy efficiency at the production line level
We develop concrete solutions to optimize the energy efficiency of our equipment and thus reduce energy consumption across an entire production line while improving industrial performance and the quality of finished products.
- The M-VT oven: this innovative vertical oven is capable of baking a wide variety of high-quality products at a controlled cost, while also promoting sustainable development. Highly compact, it is designed to optimize energy consumption, with minimal heat loss through its walls, conveyor, and fumes.
- The Hygro Control System (HCS): hygrometry is a key parameter that must be controlled to reduce energy loss during baking. The Hygro Control System is a simple and intelligent solution that automatically adjusts the hygrometry level in each oven module independently. It optimizes energy consumption, reduces product loss, and improves quality.
- The Energy Recovery System (ERS): installed at the oven level, this energy recovery solution enables energy savings across the entire production line. More specifically, this system makes it possible to reuse the energy produced by baking vapors and recycle it into preheated dry air used in the oven, as well as hot water used in the steam boiler, the proofer or other equipment.
MECATHERM's Energy Recovery System combined with its Hygro Control System won an award in the “Sustainable Equipment” category at the IBIE 2025 Best in Baking Awards in Las Vegas in September.
"We are delighted to have been awarded the “IBIE Sustainable Equipment Award” for our innovative solution, which combines energy consumption reduction, recovery and reuse of lost energy, and improved product quality to limit losses. All of this acts on all the key levers to reduce our customers' carbon footprint. "

2. Reduction of waste related to product losses
In addition to energy efficiency, product loss management is also taken into account in MECATHERM solutions.
- The M-VT oven: It quickly and automatically adapts to the load being baked. This prevents the first trays of products from being overbaked during production changes, significantly reducing the number of non-compliant products and, consequently, product losses.
- The M-UB mechanization system: Most equipment ensures gentle handling of the product, without impact, such as the M-UB handling system, and minimal handling to avoid damage.
- The M-VD buffer: To minimize losses in the event of unplanned production line stoppages, the M-VD (for products on pans) or M-DC (for products on conveyor belts) buffers can be added. This solution allows downtime to be managed thanks to additional storage capacity.
- EYE-Q Quality Control System: ABI offers an AI-based EYE-Q quality control system that opens up new possibilities for optimizing production. This system identifies and sorts defective products, thereby reducing non-compliance and product losses. EYE-Q integrates transparently into all stages of the process, enabling rapid detection, analysis of problems and immediate corrective actions. Combined with a rejection system, it ensures that only compliant products are packaged and allows for the recovery of dough when possible.
"At MECATHERM, we are committed to designing our equipment to meet our customers’ specific challenges: product quality, industrial performance, and sustainable development. On the environmental level, this includes reducing energy consumption, limiting product losses, using recycled or recyclable materials, and optimizing shipping. These developments concern both new product innovations and improvements to our existing equipment."

Acting on behalf of our customers means becoming a trusted partner capable of fully supporting them in their sustainability ambitions, so that together we can build a more responsible and committed industry. Through this trajectory and these initiatives, MECATHERM is affirming its ambition to become an increasingly committed company.
